Help us reach our goal of collecting 20,000 cans!

September 20 through October 31

Be part of America on the Move Week and team up with the YMCA of the Brandywine as we collect healthy canned food to benefit local food cupboards in Chester County. America on the Move is a national health initiative dedicated to promoting healthy eating and active living for individuals, families and communities. Help us reach our goal of collecting 20,000 cans by bringing at least two canned goods to the YMCA every time you visit or workout.

Activate Chester County - Building Healthier Communities

Activate Chester County is a collaboration among hospitals, health and recreation organizations, school districts, municipalities, and YMCAs across Chester County that are working to encourage children, adults and families to adopt healthy lifestyles. As part of the Activate initiative, each community pools its resources and designs a plan to improve the well-being of its residents through health and nutrition education, screenings and opportunities for physical activity.

Our Nation Is In A Health Crisis

Throughout the United States, the number of adults and children classified as overweight or obese has tripled, largely due to
inactivity and poor nutrition choices. These unhealthy lifestyle habits can also contribute to illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and some cancers. As a result, health care costs have increased to $300 billion a year. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that unless our
citizens act to correct this crisis, society will be unable to withstand the human and economic toll.

The good news is that obesity-related diseases are preventable when individuals adopt a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and proper nutrition, along with participation in wellness education and disease screenings.
